Quarantine Backyard Ultra Movie Coming Christmas 2020

Update 12/31/2020: While making a decision about how to proceed with this Documentary, we went back to the primary intention of our company, and of the QBU. Which is to support athletes. After thoroughly analyzing our options through this lens, it was clear to us that Fabien Duflos of Tangram films, with his extensive experience in this style of filmmaking, was the obvious choice. We are thrilled that Fabien has agreed to add the QBU to his long list of extraordinary films, and we know you will be too! We hope you will all join us in reliving the magic when it is released.

Update 12/24/2020: The release has temporarily been delayed, stay tuned for more details

CALGARY — When we started organizing the Quarantine Backyard Ultra (QBU) this spring, collecting video footage from the racers was, well, sort of, an afterthought. With just days to go before the event, we sent out a call to racers to see if anyone would be interested in participating.

We were shocked when hundreds of racers began sending us their videos. By the time the QBU was finished, we had over 250GB of footage submitted by racers and their fans.

Although we were overwhelmed by the positive response, experienced French filmmaker FABIEN DUFLOS was undaunted by the enormity of the task. Now, seven months after the pivotal event, he is excited to finally share the stories of the QBU racers with the world.

The trailer is now available for viewing on Youtube. The documentary will be released for Christmas 2020.

Fabien is a sports filmmaker and producer for Tangram Films. Recent credits include Out There – A Journey to the Barkley Marathons for Karl Sabbe Running. He’s also producing a documentary about this year’s Satellite Big Dog’s Backyard Ultra World Team Championship organized by the legendary Gary Cantrell (a.k.a. Lazarus Lake).

About the Quarantine Backward Ultra: Last April, what started as a side project to design a race for our athletes turned into a global phenomena involving over 2400 athletes from 65 countries. Trail Runner Magazine described the QBU as “The Race We Deserve During The Coronavirus Pandemic”
