Quarantine Backyard Ultra
The Personal Peak Quarantine Backyard Ultra started on April 4, 2020. The virtual race had 2400 people start from 65 countries around the world. 45 hours later, there would be only two, Radek Brunner running on a treadmill in the Czech Republic, and Michael Wardian running loops around his neighbourhood in Virginia, USA. They would go head to head for another 18 hours, until Radek Brunner would fail to start the 63rd hour.

We did a thing! This morning I joined over 2400 racers from 50+ countries for a virtual #quarantinebackyard ultra! I did about 9 miles but many other racers are using this to replace their cancelled ultra races.

We did a thing! This morning I joined over 2400 racers from 50+ countries for a virtual #quarantinebackyard ultra! I did about 9 miles but many other racers are using this to replace their cancelled ultra races.
Shoutout to headwall.adventures for roping me in (good luck today/tonight!) And to personal_peak for putting this on.

Guys, I did a virtual Backyard race today and it was extremely fun/funny. The race had over 2500 people sign up to run 4.167 mi on the hour, every hour and it doesn’t end until there’s only one person left standing. I ran 5 “laps” on the dreadmill and then my joints were hurting real bad so I figured running 50 laps around my mother’s yard would be better 🤣 I’m literally loling over here looking at the strava pic. I stopped after 6 laps (25 miles) but the race will be going on with elite runners for days! The race had over 2500 people sign up to run 4.167 mi on the hour, every hour and it doesn’t end until there’s only one person left standing. I ran 5 “laps” on the dreadmill and then my joints were hurting real bad so I figured running 50 laps around my mother’s yard would be better 🤣 I’m literally loling over here looking at the strava pic. Ended up completing 10 rounds, 10 hours, and 42.20 miles at the #quarantinebackyardultra. Thanks to personal_peak for putting on a fun event and giving us runners an opportunity to connect albeit virtually. Also a special thanks to iloendurance for being my constant source of fuel and positive encouragement throughout. The Quarantine Backyard Ultra was a grand misadventure of live streaming. For this reason or that we constantly found our YouTube channels being shut down mid-stream for unknown reasons. We would jump the stream to another channel, then get shut down, then we would jump again. Eventually the stream ended up on Facebook. However, following along has been a seemingly impossible task. The amazing Broadcast Team posted LIVE updates about the Quarantine Backyard Ultra every 6 hours throughout the entire QBU!
This Team was conceived, assembled, and lead by Dave Robertson with much of the heavy lifting done by second year Mount Royal University broadcast students Diana De Gracia, and Ryan Yip with the help of professional newscaster, Mark Villani.
Together, these four produced amazing, LIVE content throughout the QBU. They interviewed participants and organizers, incorporated fun and interesting video content submitted by you, and kept you informed about what was happening from start to finish.
